Exploring Chandon mountains vineyards

Posted under
What do the Chandon vineyards all over the world have in common? High Altitude. Chandon terroirs are located along the foothills of the most iconic mountains, enhancing quality borders.
The most important benefit of altitude is the lower temperature, which delays grape maturation and keeps them fresh-tasting. Plus, the important day/night temperature variation plays a part in the development of the grape, resulting in a better quality, taste and palate structure.
Take a tour of our high altitude vineyards:
The Andes, the longest continental mountain range in the world, make Argentina a unique wine-growing country. Domaine Chandon is located in Mendoza, a well-known wine region in western Argentina. Its chalky soils and semi-desert climate provide optimum conditions for producing wines with remarkable concentration, structure and balance.

The Brazilian Chandon vineyard is located in the foothills of the Serra Gaúcha, or Gaucho Highlands, in southern Brazil.  Here, the climate and soil have the qualities needed to produce exceptional sparkling wines.
In North America, Domaine Chandon couldn’t be located anywhere else than the Napa Valley. With its fertile soils, the area is one of the world’s premier winegrowing regions. The Chandon winery in Yountville is one of the most visited and celebrated destinations in the Valley.
In Australia, you’ll find the Chandon vineyard in the breathtaking hills of Yarra Valley River, in Victoria. Probably the finest sparkling grape-growing region in mainland Australia, the Whitlands Plateau, at 800m above sea level, is one of the highest winegrowing areas in the country. The altitude and continental climate result in a delicate combination of intense flavor and bright natural acidity for our sparkling wines.
As for India, Chandon is produced where the finest local grapes are grown: in the Western Ghats mountains on the banks of the Godavari River. The perfect weather conditions and the nutrient-rich soil types of the Nashik region give Chandon India its exceptional taste.
Our tour ends in China, where local Chandon sparkling wines are produced in the amazing Helan Mountains, also known as the Alashan Mountains. The isolated desert mountain range forms the border between Inner Mongolia's Alxa League and Ningxia in China. Considered one of the best grape-growing regions in the world, Ningxia Helan Mountain is a national protected geographic indicator of product origin.

Although high-altitude winemaking is a challenge, the environmental conditions high in the mountains guarantee the freshness, perfect balance and premium taste of Chandon sparkling wines.
